‘Mortal Kombat’ Sequel Simon McQuoid Returns as Director

Mortal Combat was a success at the box office, making over $84 million. Eager to continue the success, New Line has lined up Simon McQuoid to direct the sequel to Mortal Combat (Source: Deadline).

McQuoid directed Mortal Kombat, which released in theaters and on HBO Max in April 2021. Despite the film being released during the pandemic and simultaneously being released for streaming and in-person viewing, the film was a huge success. It was one of the first films to encourage people to return to the theater.

The film is based on the videogame of the same name by Ed Boon and John Tobias which was released in 1992. The games are available on several different consoles and is one of the best-selling videogame franchises in the world.

Simon McQuoid

Jeremy Slate is writing the screenplay for the sequel. McQuoid has had a lot of experience working for Xbox, Playstation, Call of Duty and Halo 3, among other things. He made his feature debut with Mortal Kombat and has several projects in development.
