‘The Batman’ Trilogy is on the Way

Matt Reeves’ The Batman will be a trilogy, which The Batman II announced today.

As part of Co-Chairmen/Co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DC slate announcement today, Gunn confirmed the trilogy. Along with the trilogy, Reeves is working on The Penguin series for HBO, which is described as a “crime saga” that is disconnected from the DCU

Reeves’ The Batman will be separate from the DCU, with it being part of the “DC Elseworlds” movies. Joker: Folie à Deux starring Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga will also be a part of “Elseworlds”.

Additionally, a new Batman will be introduced as part of DCU’s The Brave and the Bold. This falls under DCU Chapter One: Gods and Monsters. Gunn and Safran do not want the two films to be released within six months of one another, meaning that the rebooted Batman won’t be seen until at least May 2026.

The Batman Part II is releasing exclusively in theaters on October 3, 2025.
