Charli XCX Making Film Debut in ‘Faces of Death’ Remake

Charli XCX is making her film debut in the upcoming Faces of Death remake. Faces of Death, helmed by Cam filmmakers Isa Mazzei and Daniel Goldhaber, has begun filming. The Wrap confirms musician Charli XCX will join the previously announced Dacre Montgomery, Barbie Ferreira, Josie Totah, and Aaron Holliday. Taking an intriguing approach to the material, the filmmakers will explore how cycles of violence perpetuate online using the original viral video tapes as a starting point.

“The new plot revolves around a female moderator of a YouTube-like website, whose job is to weed out offensive and violent content and who herself is recovering from a serious trauma, that stumbles across a group that is recreating the murders from the original film. But in the story primed for the digital age and age of online misinformation, the question faced is are the murders real or fake?”

While the original Faces of Death is notorious for supposedly depicting real deaths, it mostly consisted of staged footage with gory special effects mixed with real footage. The new film franchise is being developed with hopes to spawn multiple sequels. The story was created by Mazzei and Goldhaber. The original film was written and directed by the late John Allan Schwartz.
