Meow Wolf has made a name for itself throughout the years with their incredibly immersive art experiences. Starting in 2008 as a collective of Sante Fe artists, the group has expanded to include hundreds of artists and several locations. Their newest location has hit Grapevine, Texas.

Titled, “The Real Unreal”, Meow Wolf’s newest iteration immerses audiences into a story about a family’s experience with extraterrestrial beings. When you first enter the installation, you see a seemingly normal home, set in a nighttime landscape. As you go into the house, clues begin popping up throughout that let the story unfold.

Past the house, there are numerous pathways that reveal the “unreal” parts of the storyline. You enter an area that includes numerous fridge doors as gateways into other rooms, as well as a colorful floral/fauna area with alien-like creatures scattered throughout. There was even an arcade game store in the middle of a grungy city alleyway.

I have never been to a Meow Wolf installation before, so this was my first experience with one, and I was definitely mesmerized. There were so many things to interact with, and so many ways to interpret the story. This is something you have to be prepared to spend hours exploring, which really surprised me.

After having had the chance to check out “The Real Unreal”, we are super excited for Meow Wolf’s next Texas location, which will be in Houston! You can learn more about Meow Wolf, as well as purchase tickets on their website.
