Sumo Nottingham and Gun Interactive’s The Texas Chain Saw Massacre released this past Friday, August 18, and we have been playing non-stop!

This asymmetrical game features characters from the iconic 1974 film of the same name. “Family” members include Leatherface, Cook, Hitchhiker, Johnny, and Sissy. While “Victims” include Connie, Ana, Leland, Sonny, and Julie. Each of these characters feature unique skills and perks to assist you during your matches.

Your goals all depend on whether you are a Family member or Victim. As a member of the Family, you and two of your cannibalistic family members must gather blood to feed grandpa, ensure the map is secure, and of course, hunt down Victims. As a Victim, you along with three of your friends must search the area for useful items, stay hidden, and hopefully escape.

While it is disappointing that the game isn’t cross-platform at the moment, it doesn’t take long to find a match. However, from my experience, it may take a while to find somebody who wants to play as Leatherface (which is required for a match to start!) The maps can be a bit confusing, but this is also a positive as it adds to the tension. I personally prefer playing as Victim, as I feel there are higher stakes, and it feels a bit more challenging as opposed to playing as the Family.

Overall, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre is a lot of fun, and it is definitely hard to step away from the game. I’m looking forward to how the game grows in the future.

If you’re a fan of asymmetrical horror games, then this is a must-have!

We give The Texas Chain Saw Massacre a 4.5/5.
