David Gordon Green Departs 2025 ‘Exorcist’ Sequel, Search Underway for New Director

We were fans of The Exorcist Believer and were excited to learn about the upcoming sequel, Deceiver. It seems though as fans of the Exorcist franchise we will have to wait a bit longer for the sequel as Universal and Blumhouse search for a new director.

David Gordon Green is departing The Exorcist: Deceiver sequel as he focuses on his production of Nutcrackers starring Ben Stiller, as well as season four of HBO’s The Righteous Gemstones according to THR.

The Exorcist: Deceiver was set to hit theaters on April 18, 2025, but is now unset for the time being. Instead, Universal will use that date to handle the international rollout of Lionsgate’s Antoine Fuqua-directed Michael Jackson biopic Michael.

It saddens us to see that The Exorcist Believer will be pushed to who knows when as we thought Believer had some interesting concepts. We will still be seated for whatever Universal tries to do next and will report it back to you so stay tuned.
