Idris Elba will reprise his role as Detective John Luther in a film follow-up to 2023’s Luther: The Fallen Sun for Netflix.

Dermot Crowley will also return alongside Elba in the sequel, as will Ruth Wilson. Crowley played DSU Martin Schenk, and Wilson played Alice Morgan in the original BBC series created by Neil Cross. Schenk also appeared in The Fallen Sun, but Wilson did not.

Director Jamie Payne will direct the sequel, which is written by Cross.

A wave of brutal and random murders in London secretly calls Luther back into the service, but the added challenge is that everyone wants Luther dead.

Chernin Entertainment will produce the feature alongside creator Cross. Elba will also produce with Gina Carter via their 22Summers banner alongside Tim Lewis.
