Netflix has announced today that production has begun in Atlanta, Georgia for Scooby-Doo: Origins. A first-look image at the stars has also been unveiled.

Maxwell Jenkins (“Lost in Space”) will play Fred, Tanner Hagen (“The Pitt”) will play Shaggy, Abby Ryder Fortson (Ant-Man) will play Velma, and McKenna Grace (Scream 7) will play Daphne.

The new series is “a modern reimagining of the iconic mystery-solving group of teens and their very special dog. During their final summer at camp, old friends Shaggy and Daphne get embroiled in a haunting mystery surrounding a lonely lost Great Dane puppy that may have been a witness to a supernatural murder.

“Together with the pragmatic and scientific townie, Velma, and the strange, but ever so handsome new kid, Freddy, they set out to solve the case that is pulling each of them into a creepy nightmare that threatens to expose all of their secrets.”

Josh Appelbaum (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol) and Scott Rosenberg (Venom, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle) serve as showrunners and writers.

Toby Haynes (“Andor,” “Black Mirror”) will direct the first of eight episodes, in addition to serving as an executive producer.

Greg Berlanti (“Riverdale,” “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina”) will executive produce with Sarah Schechter and Leigh London Redman via Berlanti Productions and its overall deal with Warner Bros. Television.
