A television adaptation of the post-apocalyptic action survival video game Atomfall is in the works. The game’s studio Rebellion has teamed up with Two Brothers Pictures (“Fleabag”) for the adaptation.
Two Brothers founders Harry & Jack Williams (“The Tourist,” “The Missing”) are writing the series.
Atomfall is set in an alternative 1960s within a walled and militarized quarantine zone in England’s Lake District established after a nuclear disaster. The outside world is assumed to be continuing as normal, but life within the zone has deteriorated into something far stranger.
The game, which follows a protagonist who wakes up inside the quarantine zone with no memory of how they arrived, boasts over 3.7 million players since its March 2025 launch.
Rebellion co-founder Jason Kingsley developed the game, inspired by the UK’s worst-ever nuclear accident in 1957.
Kingsley and Ben Smith (Rogue Trooper) will executive produce the show for Rebellion alongside Alex Mercer (“Doctor Who”) for Two Brothers.
“Atomfall has such a distinctive British tone and setting, and it’s been a real joy developing it alongside the Rebellion team” the Williams brothers commented. “There’s something very exciting about expanding this strange, unsettling story for television.”
“Harry and Jack demonstrated a clear love for Atomfall and talked about their own particular endings when they were playing the game,” Kingsley added. “It is always exciting to work with people who share the same passion for creating and telling great stories and we are sure that this partnership will help to deliver a television series that will delight fans of the game and beyond.”
Deadline first reported on the adaptation.
