If you’re not watching Widow’s Bay right now you’re missing out on one of the most exciting new tv shows. The show created by Katie Dippold is pretty indescribable and nothing short of insane. Widow’s Bay has the unsettling factor to make it a great horror watch but with so many hijinks to keep you laughing as well.
Check out the synopsis below:
The series stars Matthew Rhys as Tom Loftis, the skeptical mayor of a fictional, titular New England island town, who refuses to believe the superstitions of the residents who claim that the island is cursed, only to begin encountering various supernatural happenings himself that suggest the curse is real.
I was curious about what the series would showcase ever since its ominous teaser a couple of months ago. Once I started I knew we were getting something special from episode 1. The twists and turns it takes each week just kept my eyes glued to the tv. It’s like watching a puzzle come together with some scares and laughs in between. We also just got a double feature of episodes 6 and 7 that really cemented its place as a hit for me. I never know where the show will take me and that’s just such an exciting thought.
Widow’s Bay blends some pretty frightening sequences that just slowly creep up on you with some of the best laugh out loud moments. The cast offers plenty of range to keep you intrigued especially the dynamic between Matthew Rhys and Kate O’Flynn. You can’t help but to love seeing these two figure out the mystery on the island. Kevin Carrol as the grounded Sherrif adds a nuance to all of the supernatural occurrences while Stephen Root as the local believer counters it. The juxtaposition between all these characters and tonal whiplash the show gives makes it a visceral watch.

Widow’s Bay for the past month has kept me intrigued and ready to see what happens next. The show has a couple more episodes before it concludes and gives you plenty of time to catch up before the finale. The show is currently available to stream on Apple TV.
