Takashi Miike (Audition, Ichi the Killer) is back with Bad Lieutenant: Tokyo.
The action thriller is a standalone sequel to Abel Ferrara’s 1992 film Bad Lieutenant, which was succeeded by Werner Herzog’s Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans in 2009.
Shun Oguri (Godzilla vs. Kong) and Lily James (Baby Driver) star alongside WWE superstar Liv Morgan, Shotaro Mamiya, Shūhei Nomura, Nanase Nishino, and Yuka Mukai.
In the film, “A disgraced Tokyo detective spirals into a world of corruption, addiction, and violence as he becomes entangled in a twisted investigation involving a vengeful ex-yakuza, an enigmatic FBI agent, and a missing daughter of a powerful American family.”
Daisuke Tengan (Audition, 13 Assassins) wrote the screenplay.
Sam Pressman, son of Bad Lieutenant producer Edward R. Pressman, produces Takashi Miike’s new movie via Pressman Film along with Jeremy Thomas for Recorded Picture Company, Naoaki Kitajima for Nippon Television, and Misako Saka for OLM.
Bad Lieutenant: Tokyo will have its World Premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival and will release in the US later this year from NEON.
