An old modem brings back a sadistic demon in the upcoming film, Modem.
Alliance Media Partners (AMP) has secured worldwide sales on the techno-horror.
The movie is described, “The picture unfolds against the backdrop of a family digital detox vacation in a house in a Swedish forest which takes a terrifying turn when a teenager discovers an old modem and unwittingly awakens a dormant, sadistic demon when it is fired up. The sinister presence torments the family, and when their two-year-old suddenly vanishes, fear spirals into hysteria and paranoia as the family confronts a terrifying force that has turned their connected world against them.”
Modem stars Josh Burdett, Amanda Renberg, Nika Tallroth, Frederik Gunnarsson, Ylva Loof, and Henrik Lundstrom. The movie marks the directorial feature debut of Tim James Brown, who also wrote the script.
Speaking on the film, Brown said, “What makes Modem so intense is that it plays on the paranoia of technology – a paranormal stalker voyeuristically preying on its victims through their own digital devices. You can’t see it – it sees you.”
“Modem is exactly the kind of high-concept horror we’re excited to bring to the international market,” AMP’s Head of Sales and Acquisitions Anthony Buckner added. “It taps into a universal modern-day obsession with being online and turns something we rely on every day into a source of genuine terror. With its compelling premise and chillingly relevant themes, we believe the film has strong potential to connect with young audiences worldwide.”
Deadline first reported on the acquisition.
