Evil Dead Wrath director Francis Galluppi is set to write the screenplay for DC’s upcoming John Constantine film.

Deadline notes, “We understand the project is in very early development; there aren’t yet other attachments that we’re aware of. This comes ahead of the release of Evil Dead Wrath, the seventh installment in the iconic horror franchise, which marks Galluppi’s entrée into studio filmmaking.”

Created by Alan Moore, Stephen R. Bissette, and John Totleben, John Constantine (“Hellblazer”) first appeared inSwamp Thing #37 back in June 1985. A British detective with expertise in magic and the occult, John Constantine was played by Keanu Reeves in the 2005 movie while actor Matt Ryan most recently took on the role for DC on the small screen.

Deadline first reported on the film.
